A man who lives on the TT Course has been fined £550 for going on to closed roads and swearing at marshals.

Marc Louis Jean Houbert, of Glencrutchery Road, Douglas, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour and entering a closed road.

Prosecutor Richard Butters said Houbert crossed the road by his home on Glencrutchery Road at 3pm on Wednesday. Houbert, aged 68, was escorted to barriers by a marshal but was said to have sworn repeatedly as he became argumentative.

Other marshals arrived as Houbert was ushered off the course near to police headquarters.

The marshal said she found Houbert’s behaviour ’shocking’ and ’upsetting’ as she said the marshals were only trying to keep everybody safe.

Houbert was arrested by police and said that he had lived in the island for 20 years and knew he could be arrested for the offence. He told police that he had been in his garden between 12 and 3pm when he heard on the radio that the roads were open.

He said he had been asked that morning to get his 92-year-old neighbour a pint of milk so on hearing the roads were opening he went inside to put shoes on.

He said he then came out and saw a marshal but started to cross the road as he said he knew her. Houbert admitted he had sworn at the woman, telling her where to go and that he had been stupid to cross the road.

Magistrates fined Houbert £250 for entering onto the closed roads and £300 for threatening behaviour.
