Two people got cut off by the tide on the Tower of Refuge - just 24 hours after the annual organised walk.

Coastguards were called to the Douglas Bay landmark at just after 10.50pm on Sunday.

Two sightseers were left stranded on the Tower of Refuge after being caught off guard by how quick the tide came in over the causeway.

Two members of the Coastguard team got to them in dry suits and led them back to the beach.

After being checked over that they had no injuries, the pair were taken off the beach by the Coastguard Land Rover which had been parked on the water’s edge to assist with lighting during the rescue.
