Emergency services worked together to keep the public safe after an unexploded Second World War ordnance was found in Smeale.
Ramsey coastguard received a call from the police at 6.40pm on Sunday, saying that a member of the public had discovered the unexploded device while metal detecting near the coast at Smeale.
The coastguard team helped the police in cordoning off the area while waiting for the Navy Bomb Disposal Team from the UK to arrive.
The disposal team arrived in the island on Tuesday morning and safely carried out a controlled explosion of the device.
Members of the Ramsey Coastguard, who covered the cordon from Sunday evening until the military team arrived, were back on call by 9.30am on Tuesday.
A spokesman from the coastguard said: ’We thank members of the public who took advice regarding maintaining a safe distance and complied with the cordon set out.’
