A young man with a grudge against the police did nearly £2,000 worth of damage to two police vehicles while they were parked outside a police station.
Douglas magistrates heard 22-year-old Christopher David Lunt hurled a rock at the vehicles, doing £1,500 worth of damage to a Ford Fiesta and a further £400 damage to a police Transit van as they were parked on Castletown quayside.
Michael Jelski, for the prosecution, told the bench a witness had spotted Lunt lurking between two of the vehicles armed with what appeared to be a large brown object. Noticing the Fiesta appeared to have a smashed windscreen, he went into the nearby police station to alert staff.
When police investigated they found both vehicles had smashed windscreens and a large rock lying on the bonnet of the Fiesta. The witness pointed out Lunt who was still lingering nearby and a pursuit followed, with police running the defendant to ground on the shingle beach near the old grammar school.
Mr Jelski said Lunt swung a punch at the back of one policeman’s head before they managed to grab hold of him.
’The defendant carried on swinging at them and struggling before being arrested,’ he said.
On being arrested, Lunt, of Malew Street, Castletown, told them: ’I admit I did smash the two police vehicles and assault the police.’
By way of clarification, he added: ’I hate you: you are all scum.’
He admitted two charges of criminal damage and one of assault, all on March 15.
Lunt’s advocate, Andrew Marshall, asked for an adjournment for pre-sentence reports. No bail application was made. An initial request for a psychiatric report was withdrawn at the defendant’s request. He was remanded in custody to reappear for sentencing on April 20.
