A youth who vandalised a parked car by standing on its roof has been given a community service order.
Dylan Jordan Ritchie, aged 17, of Empire Terrace, Douglas, admitted criminal damage and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
Passing sentence, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Ritchie: ’You began this year up to May with no convictions. You’ve managed now to acquire five pages.
’Obviously something has happened. Your offending can’t continue in the way it is.’
We previously reported that a resident in New Road, Laxey, heard a noise outside her home at 11.50pm on June 16.
She described it as a ’thumping on metal’ and looked outside to see a number of people running off.
Another neighbour reported seeing someone on top of the woman’s car.
Footprints were found on the car’s roof and bonnet which were later matched to Ritchie’s trainers.
CCTV footage showed him leaving the scene and getting on the bus.
He was arrested but gave a ’no comment’ interview.
Ritchie entered a basis of plea in which he accepted standing on the roof of the car but said that he had not intended to damage it.
Prosecutor Richard Butters said the woman who owned the car had declined making a claim for compensation, saying her car was not worth much money.
Mrs Hughes went on to praise the owner of the car for her attitude to compensation saying she was ’very impressed’.
Defence advocate Winston Taylor said a probation report had mentioned the main issues were the company Ritchie was keeping and his lifestyle.
Mr Taylor said his client had been seeking work and added: ’He is a young man who seems to be recognising that he needs to change his behaviour.’
Ritchie must complete 70 hours’ community service.
