Police in Ramsey are investigating a spate of vandalism around the town.
Vandals struck at Milntown Gardens, Ramsey Golf Club, Ramsey Rugby Club and the town’s MER tram station and there were reports of other acts of anti-social behaviour.
Sharp items of metal were deliberately placed into the grass of the Ramsey Rugby Club pitch sometime. They were discovered on Wednesday.
A police spokesman said: ’This is extremely dangerous, irresponsible and very callous.
’Children will use the pitch over the weekend, and it was due to be used for the Ramsey Sprint. The consequences could have been extremely serious.’
Police believe that the same individuals could be responsible other acts of vandalism.
Between 8pm on Tuesday and 7am yesterday (Wednesday) damage was caused to two greens at Ramsey Golf Club and a dozen rakes and a flag were stolen.
Between 10pm on Sunday and 7.30am on Monday, fencing at the MER tram station in Ramsey was kicked in and damaged beyond repair.
And there was vandalism at Milntown Gardens between Sunday evening and Monday morning when light bollards were ripped up and boat oars and a stone bench thrown into the pond.
A police spokesman said: ’It would appear that this behaviour is quite possibly being caused by the same person or group. We are investigating these matters, and we want to know who is responsible.’
Anyone with information about any of these incidents is urged to contact Ramsey police station on 812234 or police headquarters on 631212.
