A Douglas teenager has admitted an unprovoked attack on a man which resulted in him breaking his victim’s nose.

Wiktor Pszczolkowski, of Hawarden Avenue, will be sentenced on February 26 after a probation report has been completed.

With the assistance of a Polish interpreter, he pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

Prosecutor Richard Butters told the court how, on January 11, the victim was walking with a group of people down Tynwald Street in Douglas at 6.45pm.

The group saw Pszczolkowski appear from a side alley and cross the road towards them.

The 19-year-old was said to be stumbling and staring at the victim as he approached.

The group crossed the road to try to avoid Pszczolkowski but he followed them walking behind them.

Witnesses described Pszczolkowski as looking ’completely out of it’ and said that he looked as if he was ’on drugs or something like that’.

The teenager was said to be ’wide-eyed’ and ’glaring’ at his victim despite no words having been said.

The victim said he then felt Pszczolkowski grab him from behind and turn him around before starting to punch him in the chest and stomach.

The victim tried to push him away but Pszczolkowski continued his attack, striking him on the nose.

A woman was said to have courageously pulled Pszczolkowski off the victim and he fled the scene.

However, a few minutes later the group heard a man screaming and saw Pszczolkowski with his shirt off outside Spar in Bucks Road.

Surgery

The screaming was coming from Pszczolkowski and he was subsequently arrested.

In a police interview the teenager said he could not remember what he had done due to his level of intoxication.

He added that, if he had done it, he was sorry for his actions.

The victim later went to Noble’s Hospital and was diagnosed with a broken nose which resulted in him having to undergo corrective surgery.

Defence advocate Pamela Pringle asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions to reside at his home address, contact probation and not leave the island without permission.
