A man has admitted an assault at a wedding reception during which he broke his victim’s nose.

Christopher John Crellin, of Princes Avenue, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and will be sentenced on November 13.

Prosecutor Hazel Carroon told the court how, on July 27 at 10.49pm, police were called to a wedding reception at the Palace Hotel, in Douglas.

The victim said that he had approached Crellin on a fire escape to speak to him about his behaviour at the reception.

He said Crellin pushed him, causing him to fall down the stairs, then grabbed him and began punching him in the face.

He was said to have suffered a black eye and broken nose.

A witness said that Crellin showed no sign of stopping punching the man until he was pulled off him by other people.

Crellin gave a ’no comment’ interview to police.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said that his client was working with the Drug and Alcohol Team and requested a psychiatric report be prepared before sentencing, as well as a probation report.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with a condition that Crellin does not contact any witnesses.
