A drink-driver has been fined £1,700 and banned from driving for three years after a witness reported her driving erratically.
Vicky Gaines took a urine test which produced a result of 292. The legal limit is 107.
The 36-year-old admitted drink driving and magistrates also ordered her to retake her test at the end of the ban and attend a drink-drive rehabilitation course.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that a member of the public reported seeing Gaines’ Volkswagen Golf swerving in the road and mounting a kerb on Lezayre Road heading towards Ramsey on July 1 at 3.10pm.
Police went to her home in Auldyn Meadow Drive, Ramsey, at 3.41pm and the vehicle was parked in her driveway.
Gaineswas said to be smelling of alcohol with glazed eyes.
She failed a roadside breathalyser test and was subsequently arrested and taken to police headquarters.
Once there, the intoxiliser machine was not working so she agreed to provide a urine sample.
When interviewed she answered ’no comment’ to all questions.
A toxicology report on the urine showed a result of not less than 292.
The court heard that Gaines had no previous convictions.
Defence advocate Jim Travers said that community service and probation had been ruled out by a probation report on his client.
’This is a one-off. It is Ms Gaines’ first time before the court,’ said the advocate.
’There has been a build-up, aspects in her personal life as the report would confirm. She loses her good character today. She is extremely embarrassed and ashamed to be before the court. She is already engaged in work with relevant agencies.
’My submission is that a valuable lesson will be learned out of this.’
Magistrates also ordered Gaines to pay £125 prosecution costs.
She will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £50 per month.
