A Douglas woman has been sentenced to 100 hours community service after falsifying her car insurance documents.
Dorothy Victoria Slater, of Hailwood Avenue, admitted offences of uttering with intent to deceive, having no insurance, and having no vehicle licence.
She was also disqualified from driving for two months.
Prosecutor James Robinson told the court how, on April 8 at 9.40pm, police saw Slater in her BMW stopped on Broadway with her hazard lights on.
She was spoken to by police and checks revealed her driving licence had expired in February.
She told police she was not aware it had expired but was ordered to produce her driving documents at a police station within five days.
On April 10 she produced a copy of her insurance to police but officers suspected that the start and expiry date had been amended by Slater.
She was interviewed and confessed that she had written over the dates in an attempt to give the impression she was insured.
Defence advocate Peter Taylor said that he would limit his mitigation if the magistrates indicated there were minded to go along with a probation report recommendation of community service, which they said they were.
Mr Taylor said: ’The probation report indicates the state of mind Mrs Slater was in at the time of the offence. Since the offence she has sold the car and stopped driving. At the moment she doesn’t want to drive so if you are considering a ban it would not inconvenience her.’
Slater was disqualified from driving for two months by the magistrates and ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.
