A 40-year-old mother of five from Port St Mary has been fined £800 and given a two-year driving ban after pleading guilty to drink driving.
Calybrid Marie Gardner, of Four Roads, admitted driving to Scarlett, after drinking prosecco and vodka, following an argument with her boyfriend.
Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the court how, at 12.20am on December 17, a member of the public reported a drink driver in Castletown.
Police located Gardner parked in a Renault Kangoo at Scarlett.
She failed a breathalyser test and told police :’I was sat here contemplating. I drove here to gather my thoughts. I will be over the limit.’
At police headquarters she failed a further test with a reading of 65 - the legal limit is 35.
Advocate Jim Travers said: ’The distance driven was estimated at half a mile to a mile.
It is accepted this wasn’t an emergency scenario but regrettably this was a decision made in drink having had argument with her partner and removed herself from the situation.
’There is a good deal of mitigation cited in the references.
’It was a relatively short distance driven.
’Her concern is not for herself. It’s for her work scenario and her children and how it will affect her five boys.’
Gardner was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs and must also retake her test at the end of the ban.
