A woman accused of drug smuggling has been denied bail despite her grandmother offering to pay a £10,000 surety.

Dani Leigh Sharp, aged 24, of Bryon Close, Chester, has previously denied her involvement in £33,000 worth of cocaine being brought into the island on the ferry.

She arrived in Douglas with another person in a car on October 17 at 10pm from Liverpool. Police found 336.4 grams of the class A drug hidden in a secret compartment in the car.

Ms Sharp has pleaded not guilty to production of cocaine to the island and possession of the drug with intent to supply.

She told police she was unaware of the drugs being in the car.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes refused the bail request despite Ms Sharp’s grandmother attending court and offering to pay the £10,000 surety.

The case was adjourned until November 19.
