A 29-year-old woman who spat at bouncers at Bordello nightclub has been fined £500.
Katie Rose Saunders, of Brunswick Road, Douglas, admitted disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and was also given a three-month pub ban by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.
Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court how Saunders was in Bordello on May 22 at 3.30am.
A male customer was said to have complained about her behaviour so she was spoken to by security staff.
Despite this, her behaviour towards the man continued so she was asked to leave.
However, as she was escorted out she stood in the doorway and was then said to have become angry.
She became involved in a struggle with bouncers during which she ended up on the ground, spitting at staff but missing.
Police were called and Saunders was subsequently arrested.
A probation report said that Saunders had described herself as ’plastered’ and she told probation: ’I would never do that if I was sober.’
Saunders admitted spitting but said she had rung Bordello the following day and apologised for her behaviour.
She said that the bar had banned her for 28 days because of the incident.
Defence advocate Sara-Jayne Dodge handed in a letter from a relevant agency which is currently dealing with Saunders.
Ms Dodge said that various concerns for Saunders had been raised by relevant professionals and that the incident had been exacerbated by certain difficulties Saunders had.
The advocate asked for any alcohol ban imposed by the court to be restricted to her client entering licensed premises rather than buying alcohol as well.
Ms Dodge said that a ban on her buying alcohol may drive Saunders’s consumption underground and that she was easily influenced.
High Bailiff Mrs Hughes told Saunders: ’Almost everyone who comes before the court for offences such as these says it’s the alcohol but I do give you credit for accepting responsibility.’
Saunders was ordered to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £10 per week.
