A Jurby woman has admitted assaulting a police officer and disorderly behaviour on licensed premises.

Caley Brown, 30, of The Bretney, admitted the charges when she appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Barry Swain said police were called to the Commercial pub in Ramsey on July 4 at about 9.30pm following reports of a couple having a row.

Brown was said to have been rowing with her partner and at one point had him up against the wall in the female toilets in what was described as a ’heated argument’.

Despite being asked to leave, she refused to do so or to put down the drink she was holding.Mr Swain said officers engaged with Brown in order to forcibly remove her from the pub having judged her to be drunk. They said she was slurring her words and had glazed eyes.

As they were removing her, she resisted and was put onto the floor where she began kicking out, striking an officer in the stomach.

The police used PAVA spray on her but Brown continued to kick out and kicked the arresting officer in the head, she also at one point caught the officer in the shin.

Mr Swain said he was ’grateful’ the officer was not seriously injured, she reported only reddening and feeling sick following the incident.

During this, Brown was said to have used insulting language about the officers arresting her, shouting, swearing and telling one officer she would ’kick your head in’.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said his client accepted the facts as presented by the prosecution and asked for a social enquiry report to be carried out before sentencing.

High Bailiff Mrs Hughes agreed with this request and adjourned sentencing until August 18.

Mrs Hughes also extended Brown’s bail, set in the sum of £500, with conditions including to reside at her home address, not to enter the Commercial public house, not to buy alcohol and not to consume alcohol in a public place.
