A woman has now been sentenced to community service for taking CBD oil and cash during a burglary.
Brooke Alayna Byron, aged 20, of Alder Road, Douglas, climbed through a window at Mother T’s in Laxey with two others and took £20 from a donations jar as well as eight 10ml vials of the oil.
She was then a passenger in a stolen car which ended up being crashed in Onchan by its juvenile driver.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes sentenced Byron to 60 hours of community service and put her on probation for 12 months.
She must also pay £160 compensation to Mother T’s and £125 prosecution costs.
We previously reported that Mother T’s on New Laxey Road was broken into overnight on May 13.
A Ford Fiesta was also stolen from Berrywoods Grove in Douglas on the same night.
The keys to that had been left in a car parked nearby.
Police were called to Mother T’s and it was found that CBD oil had been taken along with between £200 and £300 from a donations jar which was broken.
Blankets were also taken and a wooden elephant was also damaged.
Police were later called to an accident at Onchan Community Centre where Byron was found to be a passenger in the car.
involvement
She admitted her involvement and entered a basis of plea saying that before the offences she had taken the drug Xanax.
She said she had only taken £20 from the jar and used some of the CBD oil to put on a cigarette paper.
CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana).
Byron said the Xanax had caused her to be very tired and to think irrationally.
Advocate Ian Kermode said: ’It’s fair to say Ms Byron unwisely took unprescribed medication.
’There was no pre-meditation in relation to the theft, they entered initially to keep warm.
’There was no forced entry, it was an open window. They sat inside the building for a short period of time.
’One of the group took the CBD oil and another took the donations jar. Ms Byron was part of a joint enterprise.’
He added: ’It was someone else’s idea to go into the building and to get into the car. She has been influenced by negative peer pressure.
’She is very sorry and would like to meet with the owner of Mother T’s.’
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes described the offence as an ’extremely mean theft’ in relation to the donations jar.
