A 23-year-old woman has been fined £500 after throwing a drink over a bouncer and a plastic shot glass at him during a row at 1886 bar in Douglas.

Jessica Kayleigh Cannan, of Nassau Road, Ramsey, admitted an offence of disorderly behaviour on licensed premises while a second charge, of common assault, was dismissed.

She was also ordered to pay £250 compensation to the doorman.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that Cannan was in the Regent Street bar at 1am on February 14 with her boyfriend.

Bouncers intervened in an incident involving two men and accused Cannan’s partner of pushing an older man.

He was said to become irate and Cannan then swore at the bouncer saying: ’Who do you think you are?’

She then threw a drink over the bouncer and threw a plastic shot glass at him as the pair were escorted out, causing a minor injury to his face.

After being arrested, Cannan told police she had been out for a meal at Comis and had shared two bottles of wine with her boyfriend.

She said she then had a shot of tequila and didn’t remember much.

Cannan said that bouncers had been shouting in her partner’s face and admitted she had lost her temper but said she couldn’t remember throwing the plastic glass.

Defence advocate Stephen Wood said that CCTV footage seemed to support his client’s stance that her partner had not been involved in the initial incident and had been wrongly identified by the bouncers.

’Ms Cannan has stepped in, in a misguided defence of her boyfriend,’ said the advocate.

’Following the incident my client left and co-operated with the police. She has no previous convictions.’

Mr Wood went on to say that Cannan had recently started new employment and asked the court to spare her any licensing ban.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Cannan: ’This appears to have been a spur-of-the-moment incident and I accept perhaps the doorman was in error in confronting your boyfriend, but that doesn’t excuse your involvement. Things could have escalated.’

She was also ordered to pay £125 costs.
