A teenage mother has admitted being drunk in charge of a child.
The woman was found with a pram at Ramsey bus station on July 5 in the evening.
The child was said to be wearing a heavily soiled nappy, a filthy vest, was not secured in the pram and was underdressed for the weather.
The woman has not be named in order to protect the identity of the child.
She also admitted assaulting a police officer during her arrest.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes adjourned the case until September 1 when sentencing will take place after input from probation and social services.
Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court how police were asked to conduct a welfare check after concerns were raised.
The woman was located at Ramsey bus station at 11.48pm with the child in a pram.
She was said to be smelling of alcohol and unsteady on her feet.
As she was arrested she became aggressive, struggling with police and kicking one officer.
The child was put under a police protection order and taken to Noble’s Hospital but was deemed medically fit.
When interviewed the woman said she had drunk approximately two bottles of wine.
Defence advocate David Clegg asked for an adjournment to allow time for a full probation report to be completed before sentencing.
It was said that the child has since been returned to the woman’s care.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered that the probation report consider all options, including custody.
Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that the woman reside at her home address, not purchase or consume alcohol, and not leave the island without court permission.
