A woman who bit her neighbour’s breast and pulled her hair has been convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm and property damage.

Jayne Lisa Thompson failed to turn up for two trials after pleading not guilty to the charges and was found guilty in her absence.

The 50-year-old appeared via video link from the prison with her advocate James Peterson asking to come off record, saying relations had broken down with his client.

Thompson said she did not want an advocate and constantly interrupted the court, being told to be quiet several times.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that the incident had begun when Thompson’s dog had gone into a neighbour’s property across the road on July 24.

Thompson was said to have followed and also went into the neighbour’s house.

The neighbour and she consumed some drinks and played some music but the neighbour said that as she was stood at the stereo Thompson suddenly launched an attack on her pulling her to the floor by her hair.

She said that Thompson then knelt on her and bit her breast, causing her severe pain as she told her: ’I’m going to kill you. I have done worse.’

The neighbour said that she managed to pull Thompson off her but Thompson then smashed a mirror and tried to damage a lamp before leaving.

The woman said she followed Thompson out and a member of the public called the police.

Thompson, who lives in Brookhill Road, Ramsey, was arrested and when interviewed claimed that she had been drinking in her back yard when she heard loud music and went to find out where the noise was coming from.

She said the neighbour had invited her in for a drink but she claimed the music was too loud so she had decided to leave.

Thompson said that the neighbour had then grabbed her, pleading with her to stay.

However, a doctor’s report assessed the neighbour’s injuries of a bite mark, bruises and abrasions as being consistent with her account of events.

Thompson said she had not turned up for the two trials due to health problems.

Magistrates ordered that a probation report which will consider all sentencing options, including custody, be prepared before sentencing takes place.

She was refused bail and is remanded in custody until sentencing on October 30.
