A 40-year-old woman from Douglas has been sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge for cannabis possession.
Kelly Elaine Thompson, of Church Road Marina, admitted possession of the drug and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
The court heard that Thompson was found in possession of £8.46 worth of the drug but due to her previous convictions for similar offences the matter had come to court.
Police executed a search warrant at Thompson’s home on February 3 at 8.27am.
She pointed out a tobacco tin which contained the cannabis.
The court heard that she was fined £400 for cannabis possession after appearing in court just two days earlier on February 1.
Defending Thompson in court her advocate Jane Gray said: ’She openly pointed out the cannabis and does dispute the value. She thinks it was substantially less.’
anxiety
Ms Gray went on to say that shortly before the offence her client had found out her father was ill and that she had been suffering from anxiety and the cannabis helped her sleep.
’She was using it as a coping mechanism,’ said Ms Gray.
A forfeiture and destruction order was also made for the cannabis.
