We would like to shine a light on the lesser known charities in the Isle of Man.

Our next charity is Forget Me Not (Charity 1254), which formed in 2018 with the sole purpose of improving the support available in the island for dementia sufferers and their families.

We spoke to Julie Amphlett to find out more about their work.

WHY DID YOU FORM?

There are five trustees of the charity, all have experienced the devastation and havoc that dementia can affect within a family and wanted to help other families going through the same journey.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT SINCE FORMING?

In partnership with Dementia UK and Hospice Isle of Man we appointed the island's first Admiral Nurse, Dementia Specialist nurse, in January 2020.

Admiral Nurses work alongside people with dementia, and their families, giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance, and practical solutions.

The unique dementia expertise and experience an Admiral Nurse brings is a lifeline – it helps families to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.

In April 2021 we appointed a second Admiral nurse to the service.

Forget Me Not funds the salary and training of this service.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST GOAL?

In time, we would like to expand the team further. There are currently 1,800 people in the Isle of Man with Dementia and two nurses can only do so much.

HOW CAN PEOPLE GET INVOLVED?

Any type of fundraising is welcome.

We run events ourselves - this year we did a Royal Ascot Day at the Nunnery for 400 people that was very successful.

We have held a ball in the past and Christmas drinks Parties.

Supporting our events is one way to help but also by recommending us to be a charity of the year to Corporates, doing sponsored sporting events for our benefit, dress down days at work etc.

WHERE CAN PEOPLE FIND YOU AND DONATE?

We have a Facebook page, 'Forget Me Not - Isle of Man’. Our website is currently being developed.

We also have Just Giving page - https://buff.ly/32RLRPm
