Local musicians will come together next weekend to commemorate the life of a much-missed music promoter and personality.

Several groups and singers, including Clash Vooar, Truman Falls and Christy DeHaven will appear at the Peel Centenary Centre for the ’Remembering Jonno’ night, on Saturday, August 14, from 7.30pm, which will see members of Jonno’s UK family travel over to the island to take part.

Jonno Gollow died a year ago, and his colleagues, associates and friends have been marking his passing with a series of events, including a ’wear your old band T-shirt to work day’, which raised over £1,000 for the ’Soundcheck’ youth music project.

This concert features musicians who had worked closely with Jonno, and played at many of his events, either as headline acts or as support for some of the international talent he brought to the island.

Fellow promoter Mark Armstrong helped organised many of the events, and he said that musicians who knew Jonno closely were keen to take part.

’Truman Falls, with Jonathan Rae and Paul Teare, are playing,’ said Mark.

’Also, Clash Vooar are playing too. Dave McLean, the bassist, drummer Danny Kneale and Anglin Buttimore, who plays keyboards, and who is also a sound technician who worked with Jonno a lot, were with him the night before he died, and they felt that they wanted to remember him with a set.

’We’re also going to have a DJ from Peel, Tom Slater give us a few tunes. Jonno was a very good friend of his family, and it is nice to have them take part in some way.

’But really we want to give the people a chance to get together, and create as much space as we can for people to chat and reminisce about Jonno between the sets.’

Also featuring during the evening will be the release of a charity single, featuring the well-known songwriter Matt Creer, under the group name ’Something Purple.’

Tickets are £10, and available from Celtic Gold, in Peel, Shakti Man, Ramsey, Peter Norris Music and GH Corlett, in Douglas and Thompson Travel in Port Erin, or online from etickets.im/cc
