A celebrated English folk musician is making a quick return to the island with his latest project.

Bristol-based fiddle player Aaron Catlow and singer and guitarist Kit Hawes will appear at the Laxey Institute on Saturday, January 15, from 7.30pm.

The duo are heading to the island after Aaron performed with American folk blues guittarist Brook Williams in November last year, when he also played in Laxey.

Apparently, Aaron enjoyed his visit with Brook immensely and wanted to include a return to the Institute as soon as possible.

Since the release of their highly acclaimed debut album ’The Fox’ in 2016, Aaron and Kit have built a reputation as one of the standout acts on the UK music circuit.

High praise comes from music lovers and press alike, including Mark Radcliffe on BBC Radio 2, who said ’they are reminiscent of the (UK folk greats) Martin Carthy and the late Dave Swarbrick, I can give them no higher accolade’.Acoustic Magazine said that: ’The pair demonstrate an eclectic approach that lifts them head and shoulders above the rest.’

They released a second album, ’Pill Pilots’, in 2020.

Aaron has also appeared several times on the island with his group Sheelanagig, performing at the Mannifest festival in 2011 and the ’Our Island Our World’ festival in 2019.

Tickets for Aaron Catlow and Kit Hawes are £15, available online from etickets.im/et
