One of the newest dance studios in the island will be putting on a high-energy and eye-catching dance show next weekend.
The ’Acro Dance’ studio, based in Onchan, will host their latest stage show production, ’Out Of This World’, at the Gaiety Theatre on Thursday to Saturday, November 28 to 30, from 7.30pm each night.
The show will be a spectacular dance production, the first the studio has hosted by themselves at the theatre, and is created around a series of fantasy scenes and characters, and all performed in the unique and visually-arresting acro-dance style.
The show features a large number of student dancers, and will see a series of routines performed by more than 120 performers, aged from four to 18 years of age.
The show has been choreographed and created by Laura Booth, the senior dance instructor and studio owner of the studio, along with her fellow Acro-dance instructors Daniella Clarke, Laura Davies and Emma Wainwright.
The instructors will also take part in many of the routines.
’Acro-dance is a seamless blend of dance and acrobatics,’ said Laura.
’Flexibility, strength, balance, limbering, tumbling and lifts are beautifully fused to create spectacular dance routines, and the athleticism of acrobatics and partnering skills will be performed in duo, trio or troupe dances.’
Laura said that she took inspiration for our ’Out of This World’ show from fantasy films and television shows, such as Avatar, Jurassic World, Maleficent and Pan’s Labyrinth, and combined these otherworldly, magical fantasy elements and characters together with the acro-dance style to show off both the artistic nature, physicality and the gracefulness of the genre.
’These influences and inspirations have been carefully selected to showcase the powerful musicality and the choreography of our routines, and also the amazing costume in the routines we’ve created.
’We’ve put together a show that we want all the family to enjoy,’ said Laura.
’I am also very proud of all of my students for their work, and I hope they enjoy performing with their dance family at such a beautiful theatre.’
Tickets for ’Out of This World’ are priced £20, with £15 for seniors and under 16s, and are available from the Welcome Centre and the Villa Gaiety box office, and online from villagaiety.com
