An 11-year-old fitness enthusiast is helping residents keep in shape during the pandemic through live online classes.

Ethan Martin-Edge, a Year 6 Victoria Road Primary School student, gave his first ever live workout as a way of encouraging other children and their parents to keep fit while housebound.

Now he regularly live streams videos at 11.30am on a Facebook page called ’Active Ethan’, which is run by his parents, with more than 500 people viewing his classes.

Ethan, who is from Castletown, said: ’I wanted to do live stream fitness classes because all of the gyms have closed and all kids’ sport has stopped so I wanted to do sports videos to help keep other kids active while we all have to stay home.

’My dad, Michael Edge, is a personal trainer and he owns Bodycraft Fitness gym in Castletown.

’I always train in the gym and join in with my dad’s classes.

’I have also helped out with the warm ups in P.E. at school.’

He added: ’Because of my dad’s job he has taught me a lot and because of him I have learnt how to train people.’

On his first live streaming, Ethan had 16 people watching and following his lead of body weight exercises, such as sit ups, star jumps, burpees and the plank.

He has received many positive messages from people saying they have been joining in and sharing how much they enjoy his classes. The responses have made him feel ’happy’, especially as he likes to help other people, he said.

Ethan added that his plans are to continue to keep children active while there are no sports taking place and schools being shut.

’I thought that other kids might like to join in with fitness classes taken by a kid coach rather than an adult coach,’ he said.
