Luke Geoffrey Pickup, who breached an alcohol ban, has been given a 12-month conditional discharge.

The 30-year-old admitted buying lager at the Royal George in Ramsey. Pickup, who lives at Brookhill Road in Ramsey, was given a six-month ban on February 6.

However, on March 17, he went into the Royal George, in Market Place, and ordered two pints of Carling. He was served but afterwards staff recognised him from their banning book and called the police.

Officers arrived and arrested Pickup but he said: ‘I’m not on a pub ban.’

He opted to represent himself in court, declining the use of a duty advocate, and told magistrates: ‘I didn’t think I was on a ban. I thought it was only a driving ban.’
