Despite Valkyrs B maintaining their advantage in the men’s second tier, five other teams had switched positions by the end of play on Saturday.

The Peel-based side maintained its advantage by overcoming fellow title challengers Castletown A.

The outcome of other matches meant that Castletown dropped from second to fourth in the table.

Vikings C took advantage of this result when securing a win against Harlequins B who, despite some impressive performances from young players like Cory Corkhill and Alfie Swales, couldn’t quite match the experience on show for Vikings C.

The result pushed Vikings C up to second position, while Harlequins held station in sixth.

Bacchas Colts appear to be creeping into the top half of the table again and potentially mounting a title challenge following their win against Ramsey B. Colts moved into third place and Ramsey B dropped one spot to eighth.

Saracens B earned their first points of the season against Bacchas C, moving the southerners up to seventh.

So, although Valkyrs are the team to beat for the title, the race for second place is taking shape nicely with three sides currently in contention.

In Rossborough Women’s Premier League Vikings maintained their title charge following a 12-0 win over Saracens, while Bacchas maintained their chase by defeating Harlequins 10-0.

With Saracens and Harlequins continuing to fight, despite some big results going against them, the game between the bottom two sides is certainly going to be an interesting one.

Valkyrs A also continued their chase of Vikings when defeating a Ramsey side struggling to keep pace with the top four so far this season. They need to start putting points on the board if they want to finish the halfway point in the top half.

Elsewhere, Castletown A continued their title push with a narrow victory over a really well-organised Valkyrs B team who no doubt will have a big say in the destination of the championship this year.

Apart from Valkyrs A producing the shock performance of the weekend in Rossborough Men’s Premier League (see report right), Bacchas A defeated their own second string fairly easily to remain top of the table.

Vikings B overcame a Saracens side still trying to recover their form from last season, while Ramsey A defeated a Harlequins side proving plucky in defeat.

The results mean that the fight to finish in the top half of the table is hotting up with three sides on four points, all with a realistic chance of getting the finish they want.

Valkyrs C proved some of their doubters wrong when defeating previous league leaders Vikings A in a tight game that was a tale of two goalkeepers. Ella Treutler had a great game in goals for the westerners, while her sister Ava (normally a goalkeeper) was roped in at the last minute to play outfield and ended up scoring the winner.

As a consequence, Valkyrs C should now be considered serious title challengers alongside Vikings B and Bacchas B.

Vikings B moved into top spot following their win against Castletown B, with the southerners dropping to fourth place. Bacchas C overcame Ramsey B to give themselves breathing space at the bottom of the table.
