Noble’s Hospital says that all elective surgery should go ahead today.

Operations had been in doubt because of the spread of norovirus.

But ward five has now reopened to admissions as there have been no new cases for the last 72 hours.

Ward eight remains closed to new admissions as a precaution.

A hospital spokesman said: ’Given the improving situation, there is no intention to postpone any elective surgery.’

Advice from the health service:

The public is reminded that the best defence against the spread of norovirus is to wash hands using hot water and soap. This is especially important to anyone visiting the hospital.

People should not visit patients if they have been ill with a stomach bug in the previous three days or in close contact with someone who has had sickness or diarrhoea.

The public is also advised that if they are suffering from diarrhoea and/or vomiting they should avoid attending the emergency department unless absolutely necessary. If at all possible, they should manage symptoms at home by drinking plenty of fluids and if concerned contact their GP or MEDS out of hours by telephone.

To limit the spread of norovirus at home a weak solution of bleach can be used after cleaning any contaminated area.
