A Manx-born actress continues her ascent in Bollywood with the worldwide release this weekend of her latest film 2.0.
Amy Jackson, born in the island and brought up for the first three years in Colby, stars in the film which is India’s costliest sci-fi movie and took two years to complete.
In an interview with Gulf News she explained she plays a ’humanoid’ (an android with a human appearance) and prepared for the role by watching ’countless sci-fi films’ and documentaries on A.Is.
She said a lot of ’human features’ were there but the feelings and emotions had to be portrayed in a certain way.
Amy began her remarkable film career aged 17 after she won Miss Teen World beauty competition in Dallas, Texas.
She was spotted by Bollywood film director A. L. Vijay, who cast her as the leading lady of the Tamil language period-drama Madrasapattinam (2010).
Since then the 26-year-old has starred in several major movies. She has over five million Instagram followers.
Impressively she acts in Indian languages, including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada.
She has been managed throughout by her father Alan, former Manx Radio presenter, who lives in Colby.
Last year she played her first Hollywood role as Imra Ardeen/Saturn Girl on the third season of the superhero drama series Supergirl.
When asked if the Hollywood experience might lead to more work in the UK and US, she told Gulf News: ’One thing being an actress has taught me is that I am only as good as my next film.
’India has given me so much and I hope it will continue to do so.’
Amy will spend the coming weeks promoting 2.0 in the US, London and India.
