Culture Vannin says it is horrified that someone has been using the site of ancient chapel for a barbecue.
The Ballawoods keeill near Santon Gorge is one of only 35 earlier Christian buildings remaining in the island.
Culture Vannin tweeted: ’We all love a good barbecue but we were horrified to see this inside the keeill at Santon Gorge recently. If you know who is using the Ballawoods keeill site, please ask them to stop.’
The earliest keeills are thought to date from around 500AD when Christianity arrived with Irish missionaries and pagan Celts were gradually converted to new religion.
Some 174 of these ancient chapel sites have been recorded across the island.
Many were demolished for valuable building materials and to save ploughing around them. The remains of only 35 can be identified, generally from the stone bases of their four walls with a gap for the doorway.
About 50 have recorded names.
