Onchan Park has welcomed four new ’kiddie cars’ to its expanded kids racing track.
The new cars were unveiled by Onchan Commissioners chairman Anthony Allen, acting clerk Tim Craig and commissioner James Cherry, as part of the plans to improve facilities in the park.
Mr Allen said:’There is an ongoing commitment from the Commissioners to maintain the park, recognising the importance of this open recreational space and hope it is enjoyed by the people of Onchan this year and for many years to come.’
He described the park as ’one of the leading community facilities with much to offer’.
As well as introducing the new cars, which operate for longer than the previous ones, the commissioners have extended the track which the cars run on.
Like the previous cars, these are battery powered and operated using a token, which can be purchased from the pay hut in the park.
However, unlike the old cars, the new ones are designed to be able to seat a driver and a passenger.
Mr Cherry added, ’these cars are a great investment for the park’.
The new kiddie cars, and the rest of the park, officially opens for the season tomorrow (Good Friday).
The park is open from 11am to 6pm.
Announcing a freeze in rates in January, Onchan Commissioners said the budget included ’provision for a small enhancement package to Onchan Park, subject to outcomes of the Onchan Park strategic review’.
