Almost 100 people enjoyed getting outdoors on Boxing Day for an orienteering competition.
The Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb saw a number of families, individuals and visitors to the island to take part in its annual competition, which was held in South Barrule forest.
Out of the 91 people who attended, 22 were children and eight people made their way to the island to join in in the fun.
William Higgins, one of the organisers, said: ’Every single person I spoke to had a great time. It was an excellent turnout given the conditions, and folk are looking forward to the next one.’
The participants had to find as many ’controls’ as possible within a certain amount of time, using a map and compass to navigate from point to point.
The winner of the male category was John Kewley with David Lane in second place and Nick Sanders in third.
Winner of the female category was Fiona Anderson with Anne Cousins in second place and Sue Webster in third.
The families or friends category was won by the team Anderson Kids, with the Lole family in second place.
Theia Baker and Olivia Martin, who are nine and eight-years-old, won the U16 category. Sandor Talas, who set the course, is looking forward to the club’s 2020 events schedule.
He said: ’It includes a new mini-series from May 28, and a night orienteering competition on March 12. You will need to find as many controls as you can in one hour. The mass start is at 7pm.’
Also in the schedule is IoMOK’s three main annual events: Easter Monday, Boxing Day and the Isle of Man Orienteering Championship in September.
Basic training is available for newcomers before each event.
