The Isle of Man Constabulary have advised the public not to approach the site of a fire that occurred on Sunday evening in Douglas, following reports of anti-social behaviour.

Fire and rescue crews were mobilised at 9.33pm on Sunday, October 11, following reports of a building well alight at Sea Court on Victoria Road.

More than 30 personnel were involved in the initial response, supported by four pumping appliances, a turntable ladder, a water bowser and an incident command vehicle.

The blaze was largely extinguished by 10.51pm, although crews remained at the scene until 2.03am on Monday to complete damping-down operations and decontamination.

Police have now confirmed that a joint investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Reminding the public about the risk to safety in the area, a spokesperson said: ‘The building has sustained significant damage and is currently considered structurally unsafe.

‘Members of the public are asked not to enter the property or approach the site, as it poses a risk to safety.

‘Police are aware of ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour at the address, with individuals continuing to gain access to the property despite its condition. The building is not structurally safe and entering it could result in serious injury.

‘Anyone who witnessed the incident on Sunday, has video footage, or has information which may assist the investigation and has not yet spoken to police, is asked to contact Police Headquarters quoting reference 97/20479/26.

‘Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.’

Sea Court is a disused building on Victoria Road. A planning application has previously been submitted to replace it with a block of six apartments, alongside parking, facilities and improvements to the public highway.
