Highways chiefs have apologised over the standard of junction safety scheme in Ballabeg.
A letter has been sent out to residents on the Friary Park estate informing them that the roadworks had been done incorrectly and will have to be carried out again.
The project to install a raised surface on the A7 at its junction with Friary Park has already been subject to delays.
But now the DoI says it has it has ’identified issues with the standard of the workmanship’ which require remedial action before the work can be accepted.
It said in its letter: ’The main concern is the shape, height and finish of the table-top ramps on the A7 which were installed incorrectly.
’Currently it does not function as a traffic calming measure. There are also issues with the surface irregularity in some areas.’
It added: ’On behalf of the contractor, the department wishes to apologise for the delays in completing the work and any disruption caused.’
The DoI said it has instructed the contractor to rectify the faults at his own cost.
It said there is no date set for the works but it will be sometime in the new year.
The DoI said a contrasting coloured surface material would be applied to the ramp in the spring.
Further works to the pavements, including a built-out near the parish hall, will be carried out in January.
The DoI sent out its letter following a meeting with Arbory Commissioners.
It has agreed that the crossing points will be of a different colour and texture surface than originally designed.
