We were somewhat later than usual in starting this meeting. As we arrived and found ourselves standing on the door step, it dawned that nobody had a key to get in.

We covered all the possible members who might have a key but failed to reach a satisfactory conclusion until one member’s husband, who had brought her, agreed to go to someone who had been lent a key in order to do some work and so our ordeal ended when he brought a key back.

Only one other small hitch caused a short delay when the key got stuck in the lock and refused to come out but this was resolved and we could begin.

Mrs Phillips welcomed us and the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

A visit to Belfast had been arranged for last month and Mrs Phillips told us it had been most enjoyable and included a visit to the Titanic exhibition, a bus tour around the city and visits to castles.

Our summer outing in July will be to Knockaloe to see the exhibition and have tea.

Mrs Phillips then introduced Pam Parfitt from Bradda Head WI.

She had been to a resolution meeting in Bournemouth to vote on the resolutions which would go forward to conference later.

The two were about lack of rural bus services and overcoming fear of cervical screening and these were favoured by 98% of those voting.

We were told that there is to be an afternoon tea on July 19 and our August meeting would be a barbecue so we have plenty to look forward to.

Our speaker , Mrs Jill Poole who was to show us how to make decorative cards, was introduced and proceeded to show us what she used to make them.

She gave everyone a butterfly made of white card and some pots of paint in beautiful pearlised colours which were applied to the butterflies by dabbing with a finger.

The butterfly was then stuck onto a card and folded so that the wings stood up a little and a message was put on the card.

The results were very impressive and when Mrs Poole was asked to judge them for the competition she insisted that everyone had won. It was a very satisfactory conclusion to an enjoyable evening.
