There will be a whole range of family-centred community activities and events in the south of the island this weekend.

Castletown is set to be filled with arts, crafts, music food and craft stalls, all topped off with a sprinkling of the little people’s magic.

The little people of Bally Cashtel Beg, the miniature fairy world based around the streets of Castletown, created by community artist Eve Adams, will be out in Castletown on Saturday, August 24.

Eve has created a whole range of events for the Bally Cashtel Beg summer party, which involves a day of arts, crafts and treasure trails that will keep kids fascinated and entertained throughout the day.

There will be a dizzying range of activities that will take place in and around the town square, based around her Bally Cashtel Beg fairy door and art trail.

From 11am in the Castletown Civic Centre, Eve will be showing children how to create bracelets on a ’fairy loom’, which children can make themselves out of cardboard, and using Eve’s special ’fairy rope’, they can tie their own bracelets.

Eve will also be helping children create an under sea world on a single roll of paper, which can then be formed into an articulated puppet.

She will also show how to use it to produce stop-motion videos on smart phones.

Outside, there will be a series of treasure trails for families to follow, with gifts.

Based around the many hidden ’fairy doors’ dotted around Castletown, there will be a treasure available which will hold clues to find the small hidden gifts.

There will be an interactive challenge based around the Castletown ’fairy wallaby’. On the base of the wallaby sculpture, found in the town square, are details of a trail you can follow through the town to find a smaller hidden wallaby.

There is also another competition to enter, based on features painted onto the Wallaby.

Another of Eve’s activities , a large outdoor board game called ’Race to the Lighthouse’ can be found in the square.

There are several more activities available to take part in the centre of Castletown on Saturday, including a food and craft market, which will feature local produce, street food,

live music and entertainment and artisan arts and crafts.
