A display of new work by a well-regarded landscape artist has gone on display in the south of the island.

Painter Max Aitken opened an exhibition at the Engine House, on Alexander Road, Castletown, on Thursday, June 13.

Max’s new collection contains a range of dramatic and striking landscapes of the Manx countryside and coastline, together with a series of colourful and vivid images of street scenes.

There are also examples of his paintings of motor sports and motorbike racing.

Max, who lives in Cheshire, last exhibited work on the island in 2017, at the Hodgson Loom Gallery.

He said that he has spent a lot of his time in the Isle of Man in the past, and lived in Ramsey up until the age of 18, and the island has been constant source of inspiration for him.

’I spent my childhood in the Isle of Man, growing up in Ramsey, and many of my paintings are based on subjects taken from it,’ he said.

’I enjoy experimenting with different styles but my work is always based on a realistic approach to each subject.

’I mostly use acrylic paint as I find it provides me with a freedom of application and a depth of colour which is more satisfactory than other mediums.

’I enjoy painting land, seascapes, people and motor sport scenes, and my portfolio reflects these preferences.’

Max’s work is available to view throughout June, from 11am to 2pm.
