A returning artist, who has featured the island heavily in his latest exhibition, will hold a lecture this week.

Fine artist and painter Martin Hearne will share some of his insights behind his exhibition tomorrow evening (Friday) at the Manx Museum, from 6.30pm.

Martin unveiled his exhibition, entitled ’Day For Night: A Season in Douglas’ at the museum public gallery earlier this year.

He will talk about how the Isle of Man inspired his art and his subsequent career, alongside discussing his exhibition, which contains a series of colourful paintings depicting the visual transformation of Douglas into a postcard perfect holiday destination from the heady days of tourism during the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Martin began his artistic career as one of the generation of art students that emerged from the Douglas School of Art, based at Kensington Road, during the 1960s.

Martin trained under the great Manx painter Norman Sayle and studied alongside international artists such as Michael Sandle, Kevin Atherton, Ian Coulson, Bryan Kneale and many more, before becoming the head of ceramics at Bradford School of Art, a post he held until retiring in 2015.

Tickets cost £5 for students or £10 for non-concessions, available from manxnationalheritage.im
