The 2017/18 annual John Nicholson bursary has been awarded to wAsia Ogden and Victoria Hoover, both pupils of Castle Rushen High School.

They were presented by Mike Ingram, chairman of the foundation.

John Hobson Nicholson, one of the most successful Manx painters, was a long standing and founder member of Rushen and Western Mann Rotary Club.

He died in 1988.

The John Nicholson Foundation was set up as a charity following his death to support visual arts in the Isle of Man and now provides a bursary each year.

In response to the 2017/18 bursary scheme the charity resolved to award Asia and Victoria £500 each to help them with development of their art studies.

Asia works digitally and enjoys painting in several media, while Victoria sets her sights on an art and design course at University College Isle of Man.

The foundation is planning to hold another bursary competition in 2018/19.
