An award winning and highly acclaimed writer is to visit the island next weekend.
Jim Crace, the author behind many best-selling novels, is to host a writing workshop and a talk as part of a weekend organised by Manx Litfest.
’An Evening with Jim Crace’ takes place at Noa Bakehouse in Douglas on Saturday, November 10, from 7.30pm, and will feature Jim discussing his books and his career, both as a writer and as a former journalist.
Tickets are priced at £10 and available from the Villa Gaiety box office, on 600555 or online from villagaiety.com
Prior to that, Jim will hold a writing workshop from 6pm until midnight at the St John Ambulance building in Glencrutchery Road, Douglas, on Friday, November 9.
This will include a writers ’surgery’, conducted by Jim, early in the evening, answering questions and offering advice, and following that he will then be available to speak to writers individually.
Tickets for the writing surgery are £20, available from [email protected]
For those wishing to attend both of these events, there is a discounted price of £15 for the writing session/surgery.
Manx Litfest director John Quirk said: ’We are thrilled to have Jim with us for the weekend.
’He’s probably one of the most acclaimed British writers working today and we’re excited to have him conduct a writing surgery on the Friday night as well as the public event on Saturday night.
’Whether you are a reader or a writer, it should be a fascinating insight into Jim’s career and the way he writes.’
Jim is the author of several books, including ’Quarantine’ and ’Harvest’, which were both shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. His most recent novel, The Melody, was published earlier this year.
His other books include ’Continent’ and ’Being Dead’, which both won major literary awards.
In addition, Jim was awarded the EM Forster Award by the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1992 and became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 1999.
In 2000, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Central England for Distinguished Literary Achievements.
