The Claremont is sponsoring the award for International Business of the Year at this year’s Isle of Man Newspapers’ Awards for Excellence.
Managing director, Mark Wilson, explains the importance of recognising Isle of Man businesses in a global market.
The Claremont is the leading four-star gold hotel on the Isle of Man, accommodating visitors from around the world, so Mark Wilson is perhaps in a better position than many to recognise the importance of flying the flag for the island overseas - and the value to local businesses of developing a global strategy. Which makes the Claremont the perfect sponsor for this year’s International Business of the Year award.
With the Claremont a previous winner itself in the awards, in both Company of the Year and Customer Service categories, Mark is keenly aware that businesses today must be ready to compete on a worldwide stage - and be judged against international standards.
He said: ’Visitors to the island, and particularly potential investors, expect to receive the same level of service and the same facilities as they would anywhere else in the world. It’s up to us to meet or exceed those expectations so they leave with the very best impression of the Isle of Man and we ensure it is a place they will want to return to.
’It’s essential for any business with an international market, no matter what sector they are in, to have a clear understanding of global trends and put themselves in a position to be able to compete on equivalent or better terms than others elsewhere.’
As part of the Claremont’s own development, and the latest stage of its multi-million pound investment plan, the hotel has recently unveiled a new set of executive suites for business travellers. These feature stunning contemporary interiors with separate lounge areas, luxury wet rooms and integrated multimedia work spaces along with extra touches such as in-room coffee machines and smart TVs.
Mark said: ’The new executive suites offer an exceptional level of comfort, sophistication and connectivity and, along with our award-winning restaurant and our excellent business facilities, mark us out as the outstanding hotel of choice for visitors to the island. We work hard to keep the Claremont at the forefront of the island’s hospitality sector and it is a credit to our staff that they are motivated to provide the best service possible to complement the hotel facilities.’
Mark went on to say that being recognised for good work through initiatives such as the Awards for Excellence, and the many other accolades the Claremont has received, is important and is much more than a morale-booster for those involved.
He said: ’While the Awards give everyone an opportunity to celebrate and enjoy a moment in the spotlight on the night of the ceremony, their real value is in showcasing the amazing talent, creativity and business excellence the Isle of Man has to offer.
’As a sponsor, we are delighted to play our part in helping enhance the reputation of the island as a positive, forward thinking and successful place to live, work and visit.’
