A local band has been named as support for a much anticipated concert, due to take place on the island in little more than three weeks.

Guitar-based group Baad Acid will open up for Scottish psychedelic indie rockers Primal Scream, who will make their long-awaited debut appearance on a Manx stage at the Villa Marina on Wednesday, July 19.

Three piece Baad Acid formed in 2013, and feature guitarist Leigh Mitchell, bassist and vocalist Jamie Marshall, and drummer and keyboardist Brian Brough.

Describing themselves as ’eclectic, electric, psychedelic drone pop, they have already released an EP and are currently working on recording an album.

Speaking after the news was released, Brian said that they were amazed to be offered the prestigious support slot, and that they have struggled to keep the news to themselves since they were informed.

’I really can’t believe it,’ he said. ’I know that we were included in a list of around a dozen bands that their management listened to, but we never thought we would be chosen.

’We were told about two weeks ago, and it has been so hard to keep the news to ourselves. I’m glad it has been announced, so that now at least I can talk to people about it with my friends. It has been really hard not to tell everyone we’re supporting Primal Scream.’

The news was released by Lenny Conroy, from concert promoters Triskel Promotions, who is delighted that a Manx band impressed Primal Scream’s management enough to have them on the bill.

’I am very pleased to be able to showcase Baad Acid,’ said Lenny.

’We sent over material from a dozen bands as potential support and Baad Acid made the cut.

’With new material written for the show and a warm up slot at Deep South this weekend, they were the obvious choice to complement Primal Scream with their own niche sound.’

Baad Acid formed in 2013, and features members Leigh Mitchell, Jamie Marshall and Brian Brough.

They describe their music as ’eclectic, electric, psychedelic drone pop’.

Having already released on EP, they are working on recording an album.

Primal Scream have recently released their 11th studio album, ’Chaosmosis’, which came out in 2016, and has just played alongside fellow 90s legends Stone Roses at a huge concert at Hampden Park, Glasgow.

Tickets for the show are priced £37, available from the Villa Marina box office.

Doors open at 7pm and Baad Acid will be onstage from 8pm.
