Two of the island’s most unlikely heroes are back in action, with the release of the latest instalment of a popular book series.
Manx author J.C.Williams released ’The Isle of Man TT Aces’, the fifth in the series of his ’Frank And Stan’s Bucket List’ books last week.
His highly popular and internationally successful series follows the adventures of sidecar race team owners Frank and Stan, and their drivers Dave and Monty, as they career from one sticky situation to another, all the time while trying top keep their sidecar on track.
After becoming unlikely winners of the TT, Dave and Monty become the stars of a new TT docu-series, produced by a glamorous US TV production company.
However, a few jealous faces around the paddock are determined to stop them, and Frank and Stan from becoming TV stars.
Everything you would expect from the pen of author James, who writes under the pen name of J.C.Williams, is there, from the mystery and intrigue to the warm-hearted comedy and well-crafted, lovable characters, as they unexpectedly defy the odds.
Already, ’’The Isle of Man TT Aces’ has generated a very positive reaction with his readers, of which there are many on both side of the Atlantic.
’It’s full of TT action, full of humour and so far it has gone down really well with those who have read it,’ said James .
’It’s had loads of five star reviews, which has been amazing.
’It’s a series that just seems to have exploded, and there are people buying these books all over the world now, in the US, in Canada, Australia, Europe and obviously in the Isle of Man and England.’
James has returned to his Frank and Stan books after a break, choosing to develop his other book series, which include ’The Seaside Detective Agency’ and the ’Lonely Heart Attack Club’.
’The most challenging thing about writing these new books is remembering what was going on in the series. ’I have to make sure people can read them all with the continuity in place, so I had all the books open, looking back over them as I was writing the new one.
’But I do know the characters so well and they feel almost like family. It’s a bit bizarre.
’But, like many of my books, you don’t need to be immersed in the TT to understand them. The background is just a by-product. It could be anywhere.
’Its just a nice, feel-good story about friendship, a load of wacky and perverse characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. ’But if you are after humour and a good laugh, I think this book, and the rest of the series, is an absolute winner.
