Beach Buddies’ example has spread to the Channel Islands.
Staff from the HSBC bank once again joined forces with the charity with a series of beach cleaning events across the island.
The bank gives its staff time off to work for a day for a charity of their own preference and, for the second year in succession, teams chose to support Beach Buddies in its quest to give the Isle of Man some of the cleanest beaches in the world.
Four HSBC teams totalling 30 staff took part in events at Castletown bay, Langness, Fisher’s Hill, Brewery Bay, Hango Hill, Derbyhaven, Ramsey, Cranstal and the Point of Ayre
This year HSBC also went one better by mirroring the Isle of Man event across Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark, where HSBC also does business.
James Simpson, premier wealth manager at HSBC, said: ’Our volunteers had a great time supporting Beach Buddies and we also found it a fantastic educational piece for our people about plastic and the way it is affecting our local environment.’
Bill Dale, founder of Beach Buddies, added: ’Last year the HSBC employees were extremely keen, and did a fantastic job, and this year was just the same. There was a great spirit and enthusiasm from everyone.
’It’s particularly pleasing that HSBC encouraged their employees in the Channel Islands to get involved. HSBC has a massive worldwide presence, so we’re hoping the experience of the Isle of Man will now spread much further afield.’
