Firefighters who tackled a big headland fire on Saturday believe they have found its cause.
During the damping down operation fire crews discovered two disposable barbecues and a number of glass bottles left after a group of people had been drinking.
A spokesperson said: ‘We would ask members of the public not to use disposable barbecues in the countryside with the high risk of another incident like this happening.
‘We estimate that around 50,000 litres of fresh water was used as well as drawing water from the river to help bring the fire under control which puts more of demand in our fresh water stocks!’
The weather turned yesterday (Monday) morning when a lot of rain fell. More unsettled weather is forecast this week.
The change was heralded by a thunderstorm in much of the island.
Four properties were struck by lightning.
Fire crews were called to nine incidents in total.
A property at Pinehurst Glen, Douglas, suffered major damage to its roof and electrics, a property on the Foxdale Road, Garth, Marown, suffered electrical damage, a property at Hillside Avenue, Douglas, had its chimney stack damaged by a strike and a property on Marine Drive, Port Soderick, escaped serious damage.
Staff from Manx Utilities were called on to check electrical supplies within each of the properties.
