Beach Buddies will be going to Niarbyl on Sunday following reports of late amounts of marine rubbish having washed up on the beaches in the area during the last few weeks.
Some volunteers have already been there and gathered a large pile of plastics and other materials, but there’s plenty more to be done, the charity’s founder, Bill Dale, says.
Volunteers can use little Knockuskey Cottage on the beach afterwards (leased to us by Manx National Heritage) for hot drinks
Mr Dale says that volunteers should take care parking because there is virtually no space on the beach itself and the Niarbyl Cafe is always busy on Sundays.
He added: ’We had yet another record last weekend when 113 people turned up for the biggest ever Sunday morning event in the south at Langness.
’Among them were yet more new faces - 15 in all who all seemed to really enjoy themselves and promised to come back.
’We love to see new faces. If you fancy trying it for the first time this weekend just come along and say hello and we will give you a safety briefing and equipment and off you go to the beach with a purpose, and come back with a sense of achievement and a big fat smile!’
Beach Buddies is sponsored by FIM Capital and receives annual support from the Manx government.
