This morning’s Ben-my-Chree sailing from Douglas to Heysham has been cancelled because of the windy weather.

The Steam Packet says that for alternative arrangements passengers should call reservations on 01624 661661.

The return sailing this afternoon has obviously been cancelled too.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning and says there will be snow and ice.

Today’s weather forecast from the Met Office:

A dry morning today, with brightness and sunny intervals developing. During the afternoon showers will develop, these turning increasingly wintry overnight into Friday. The winds a strong to near gale force west or north-westerly and with temperatures beginning around 8 Celsius turning colder during the day.

The north-westerly winds will remain strong to near gale force overnight, with temperatures lowering to around zero or minus 1 Celsius, but a degree or two warmer along some coasts.

Very cold for Friday with strong northwest winds bringing frequent hail or snow showers, with the risk of some disruption. Top temperatures only about 4 Celsius at best, but near freezing on high ground with ice on any untreated surfaces.

Further wintry showers of hail or snow initially for Saturday, but becoming more isolated during the afternoon with also some brightness. Strong northwesterly winds will ease during the day and with highs of 4 or 5 Celsius.
