A daughter is to lose her hair to raise money for a cancer charity.

Beverley Cowan will be shaved by her father Patrick ’Chucka’ O’Brien.

Macmillan Cancer Support will benefit.

Bev, who lives in Castletown and who works as a passenger services assistant for the Steam Packet, said: ’Dad was diagnosed with glioblastoma stage 4 - a brain cancer - followed by lung cancer in 2018.

’He has fought courageously every step of the way, with complete dignity and positivity. I am rather fond of my hair, but I’m doing this for him; to show him how proud I am to call him my dad.

’I also lost a cousin and an auntie to this horrible disease recently, so any money raised will be donated to this fantastic cause. We won’t let cancer win.’

Staff at workplaces throughout the Isleof Man will be supporting Macmillan’s Coffee Morning on Friday, September 27, as part of the charity’s ’World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ event, which encourages groups and workplaces to bake and sell cake.

Among them will be a coffee morning at Steam Packet headquarters in Douglas for staff and at the Sea Terminal in Douglas for the public and at the departure lounge at Liverpool Terminal.

Steam Packet boss Mark Woodward said: ’As a company we are 100% behind Bev and her hair-raising fundraising efforts, during a very difficult time in her personal life. Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning raises tens of millions of pounds every year to help fund the charity’s vital cancer support services, and we’re excited to get involved.

’The cakes and bakes will be judged and then sold, so I’m sure there will be plenty of healthy competition among the entrants!’
