The founder of the Beach Buddies charity has been invited by Unesco to give a presentation at the British Science Museum in London to a potential 4,000 visitors.

The event is called the Lates. It invites people to attend the Science Museum on Wednesday evening and choose between a wide range of presentations.

The theme of the evening looks at how members of Unesco Biospheres are taking on the role of solving global challenges and, in the Isle of Man’s case, its success in beach cleaning and education.

Beach Buddies’ founder Bill Dale said: ’This is a wonderful opportunity to promote the Isle of Man and our special community, and highlight what can be achieved by people getting together to address one of the biggest environmental issues ever to face the planet.

’It is a real honour for the Isle of Man to be asked to give a presentation at such a respected event, and we’ve also been asked to attend another major UNESCO event very shortly in Dublin, so this is really putting the Isle of Man on the map in terms of how we are dealing with issues which affect everyone on earth.

’In the last 12 months we have been invited to give presentations all over the world, but I think this event at the British Science Museum has to rank as the most prestigious honour yet for Beach Buddies.’

Beach Buddies is sponsored by FIM Capital and receives annual support from the Manx government.

Unesco Biosphere Reserves cover internationally designated protected areas that are meant to demonstrate a balanced relationship between people and nature.

The whole of the Isle of Man has been designated a biosphere.
