An organisation that helps blind people is holding an open day on Friday for other charities.

The Sight Matters (formerly Manx Blind Welfare Society) eventtakes place from 10am to 2pm.

It is for professionals in the statutory and third sector to meet the charity’s team, including colleagues from the Macular Society.

They will find out about the full range of services it offers and meet some our volunteers.

There will also be the opportunity to meet members and find out about their experience of using our service.

Cathryn Bradley of Sight Matters said: ‘Event such as our awareness day do take on extra significance in light of the pandemic.

‘Over the last couple of years, 60% of UK charities reported a fall in income, while a 32% experienced a shortage of volunteers.

‘Despite these figures, there wasn’t a significant fall in the number of charities, a situation which will have been greatly helped by furlough schemes and emergency funding, but it is also proof of the adaptability and resilience of the third sector.’
