The Brack-a-Broom herd of pedigree Blonde cattle went under the hammer at Harrison and Hetherington’s monthly beef breeding sale at Carlisle.
The dispersal of the Brack-a-Broom pedigree Blonde herd was on behalf of the late Crellin Frost who farmed near Poortown. Topping this section was a Blonde cow and calf at £2,700.
The Brack-a-Broom herd of Blonde cattle was founded in the late 1980s with purchases from Carlisle sales of foundation females.
Mr and Mrs Crellin Frost registered their first home bred female in 1990 and so began the herd. The Frosts enjoyed much success in the show ring in the island and sold bulls to other beef producers locally.
Crellin was diligent in his research of bloodlines and used AI to improve and build on his existing genetics, mainly pure French, chosen for structure, fleshing and shape. Crellin, whilst not as mobile in latter years, kept a sharp eye and keen interest in his herd up until suddenly passing away in January this year.
The herd in its entirety was bequeathed to a family member who, due to other commitments, had no wish to continue with livestock farming. Thus the herd was offered for sale as a genuine dispersal.
